From aircraft mechanic to customer advisor

We stand at the Harstad office. Harstad is covered in snow, but the sun is shining on the mountain peaks around the centre. From his office, Ommund can see far beyond the fjord. He probably didn't think he would end up here. As a young man, he worked at Sola airport as an aircraft mechanic, and it was a completely different life. But as we reminisce, we find a clear common feature between his parts of the country, Rogaland and Troms and Finnmark, that is that both can offer a lot of wind. Very windy.

So, how is it possible to go from aircraft mechanic to senior customer advisor? Yes, we'll take you through that. Ommund is a committed man with a lot of drive. He is also above average curious. It takes you into several different professional fields.

He has worked as an aircraft mechanic, small aircraft aspirant, baggage handler, salesperson, marketer, meeting booker and now full-time as a senior customer advisor with us. This gives him an exciting insight into different organisations.

The problem solver from Rogaland

- Being a forward-leaning guy has paid off so far, says Ommund with a smile.

He is not shy, and has always liked to solve problems and challenges people are facing. The problems most often arise when a need is not met. Be it children who haven't had enough sleep, or companies who haven't cleaned up their digital tools. Ommund can most likely help you with both. With two children at home and three grown-up children in Sandnes, he has a long time on the home front as well.

What Ommund often sees is that people he meets do not see for themselves that there are good solutions to the problems. Often because they don't know about the good tools out there:

- I feel most comfortable there. When I can both find solutions, and especially when the customer himself does not know what the solution might be. Many have an aha moment when they realize what the IT industry actually has to offer.

Uncovering needs is a separate subject at school and an art not everyone can master. For the native of Rogaland, a deep dive into needs analysis back in 2004 was absolutely essential. - I learned everything I could about the topic, and I remember a lot to this day. I take that with me into all meetings.

Why Harstad?

While we are talking to Ommund, it emerges that he has ended up in Harstad somewhat by chance. "Mother-in-law" is from the area, but he persuaded her to come to Stavanger in the first place. It was back in 2011. After many great years in Rogaland, a small exchange was needed. Now it was time for Ommund to experience Harstad in Troms and Finnmark.

The entire Svendsen family packed their bags and moved up in February 2022. Business life is very varied in Harstad, and the town itself is both beautiful and rich in content. So they had to figure out the job together. Coincidentally, Ommund had applied for a job in Braathe a few months earlier. Our own, Ole, had it Braathe, caught up.

- Ole called me and asked if I was still looking for a job, and I certainly was. So then it was extra nice to be a part of Braathe- the gang in Harstad.

How has the last year gone, Ommund?

- It has been a lot of fun to take up my position, and especially since I am the only customer advisor in Harstad. The people here are very nice and I really enjoy being in Vågfjorden's pearl.

Regarding the job, Ommund says that his area of influence is wide and large, but that there is no problem. Harstad has many businesses that are ready to get a better IT everyday life. Svendsen also points out that almost 80% of those he speaks to do not know what opportunities IT can provide and represent. It is therefore his job to show them the way to worry-free IT.
