Braathe Gruppen started as a small family business in 1989 - (the same year that the World Wide Web was invented, and the first GPS satellite was launched), and since then has grown in step with the development of technology. With this, we have been an active part of the IT industry for a full 30 years - and we have been able to follow the development from central mainframes and stupid terminals in the 80s, to today's wireless devices with enormous communication and technology possibilities.

We have created a timeline where we give you brief facts about technology development, and we start with the great 1990s.

1990s: The decade when everything exploded
In the 90s, technology developed in rocket speed, which laid the foundation for many of the standards we have today. If you are of age with the founders of Braathe Gruppen, do you remember any of these events that happened in the 90's?

1991: The first operating system for advanced computer systems was invented, Linux.
1991: The first webcam was invented.
1992: The browser came to stay.
1992: Nokia 1011 became the first GSM phone you could carry in your hand.
1993: Email began to become an effective communication channel.
1995: Internet Explorer launched.
1996: USB came on the field.
1997: WiFi standards were introduced.
1998: The year when Google first hit the track - and the iMac was launched!

For Braathe Gruppen the early 90s were exciting, and demanded entirely new ways of thinking. Until then, we had only supplied PCs and software to SMB companies. When the Internet first became commercially available to Norwegian companies in 1995, it became more common to communicate outside the office via e-mail. Braathe Gruppen could now offer internet access, with telephone connection (modem). Are you old enough to remember the peculiar sound of these modems when they connected?

2000s: Mobile technology reaches new heights
Then came the good 2000s. As early as 2002, Microsoft.NET came onto the scene. If you compare the timeline above with the timeline below, you can see some clear differences: 2002: Microsoft.NET came on the scene.
2003: Myspace was started, and the popular social networking community reigned for quite a while until challenged. And the challenger was Facebook.
2004: Facebook was launched - a completely different way of communicating than before.
2007: The first iPhone was launched.
2009: Android is up and running.

In short, a period that gave us new ways to communicate, with the social media channels that came on a continuous basis, and mobile technology in high gear.

From 2000 Braathe Gruppen has provided IT services over the Internet. Today we provide cloud services as a total delivery - central services delivered through the internet, operated and supported by us. We will continue to do that - and more! How will the technology evolve from 2019 onwards?

Then the question is: Where will it end? What an exciting development we have ahead of us. It is predicted that in the future we can get driverless cars (by 2030) and automated transport. What will happen in data, technology and IT? We look forward to continuing to be part of the development!
