Why do you need to upgrade to Windows 11?
With Windows 11, you not only get a more secure system, but also a number of smart features that help optimize your performance and usage. This includes better support for hybrid work environments, good tools for productivity and a modern design.
What does "end of life" mean? When an operating system goes out of date, it poses a risk to both the security and efficiency of the system. Without regular security updates, Windows 10 gradually becomes more vulnerable to hacking, viruses and other malicious software. As cyber threats become more and more sophisticated, it is very important that your systems are updated with the latest technology and the most modern security solutions.
Although there is a whole year until Windows 10 reaches its "end of life", it is always wise to start preparations early. Upgrading an entire system, especially for businesses, takes time – and the earlier you start, the better prepared you'll be as 2025 approaches. A year goes by fast!
What must you do now?
If you are still using Windows 10, you should start preparing for the transition to Windows 11 well in advance October 2025. Here are some important steps to follow:
- Check the system requirements:
Not all devices meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11, so before you upgrade, make sure it's in place! You can easily check that here: https://www.microsoft.com/nb-no/windows/windows-11#pchealthcheck - Back up all your data: Backing up important files and data before upgrading the operating system is very important!
- Consider your current machine fleet:
For companies with many units, it may be necessary to carry out a comprehensive assessment of their entire machine fleet. This includes not only whether the units can be upgraded, but also whether it is financially sound to do so. In many cases, it will be more profitable to invest in new devices that are fully compatible with Windows 11. - Plan a smooth transition:
Upgrading to a new operating system requires planning. Whether you are a small business or part of a larger organisation, you should have a clear plan for how the transition will be carried out. For companies, this may mean carrying out the upgrade in phases, in order to minimize operational disruptions. It may also be a good idea to work with advisers who have control over Windows to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible.
