Nintendo 64 and PC building

Sondre's first encounter with the digital sphere was when the Nintendo 64 arrived. Home on Rygge heard people sounds most people recognize. Together with a jumping race car driver and growing mushrooms, he had a great time. It didn't take long before more advanced tools came along.

In the 9th grade at secondary school, with graduation money in his pockets, Sondre bought his first components for a PC. Gaming became a social thing with friends even back then, and the hobby has not diminished since. Sondre laughs a little to himself: - I actually have a component on the way right now. It is for a new project I am working on.

When you build the PC yourself, you gain insight into how things are built and connected.

Life at NTNU Gjøvik

When Sondre had finished upper secondary school, the choice was easy. He wanted to cultivate the interest further. The choice fell on a bachelor's degree at NTNU. Specifically, Gjøvik. Just a few hours from where he comes from. He is part city boy from Oslo, and part from Rygge. The best of both worlds, in other words.

It was a bachelor's with a focus on both IT equipment, operations and information security. He says that PC construction came in handy:

- It was valuable to have known part of this before. When you build the PC yourself, you gain insight into how things are built and connected. So I could gather the threads several times during my studies with what I had learned myself.

When he completed his bachelor's in IT operations and Information Security back in 2019, he also stayed in the city. He enjoyed himself in Gjøvik, and now lives there with his partner.

Say hello to Sondre Granerud.

First year in Braathe

So how did you end up with us?

- No, I got an offer then, he says with a sly smile.

The truth is that we already gave Sondre an offer when he graduated in 2019, but it would take three years before we got hold of him. Because he stopped by a competitor in the meantime. No bad feelings there then!

When we finally caught up with him, he had spent a lot of his time on something called Linux. Linux is, for those of you who are curious, an operating system. So if you work with Linux, you work a lot with servers where the data storage takes place. Sondre worked on this a lot for almost three years.

But then we caught him! He has developed an expertise in the Linux system over three years, but is also very good at networking and security. That is why he now works 60% with network and security and 40% with Linux and Windows with us at our Gran office. Together with all our other great people, he contributes to worry-free IT (our slogan) for customers all over the country. He says that his job satisfaction is high, and that he has good colleagues who take good care of him.

What is it like to have such a wide range of tasks?

- I think it is very nice to work as varied as I do now. Knowing a little about everything is fun, so the distribution I have now suits me well. My interest in security in particular has always been great, ever since childhood, he says.

We have created a security portal that considers where you should start your security work. Read more here.

In 2023, the safety of our customers will be particularly important. There are few threats as big as cyber attacks for Norwegian businesses now. So I hope customers see the importance of having control over what goes in and what goes out. And if they don't have it, I can help.

Burning for safety

As a youth, Sondre always had a father in a Securitas uniform at home. It has made an impression. - The fascination with security in general has always been there. I'm a nerd with a good mood, he says with a big smile.

The security perspective is therefore something he always has with him in meetings with customers. He says that it becomes a thought that you carry with you.

- In 2023, the safety of our customers will be particularly important. There are few threats as big as cyber attacks for Norwegian businesses now. So I hope customers see the importance of having control over what goes in and what goes out. And if they don't have it, I can contribute.

We thank you for a wonderful chat with the happy boy from Rygge/Oslo! And if you are curious about networks, security or various operating systems, you are welcome to visit our service pages.
