The roles are reversed

Ole's name suddenly appeared in our mailbox last week. His manager, Heidi, mentioned that he had been complimented by a customer. She also spoke warmly of him. In addition, she mentioned that Ole was a customer of Braathe through his previous employer. We thought that was funny. The roles are thus reversed.

We quickly get in touch with Ole and just a few days later we are sitting together on Teams. He in Tromsø, we in Eastern Norway. We ask him what he did Braathe. On a wonderful South Troms dialect he says:

- Ever since I started in the municipal sector, I have been curious about the private sector. And when my contract ran out in the job I had, I asked around a bit about jobs with the people I had met in Braathe.

A few days later the phone rang, and after a round of interviews, the job was ready. Ole therefore now works in our delivery department. It is the department that must ensure that everything the customer has ordered is delivered on time and to a high standard. Ole makes sure of that.

Good insight into the municipal sector

Ole has worked in the municipal sector since 2017. Then he started as an apprentice in his neighboring municipality, Salangen. He then spent almost two years in Målselv municipality, which is around 2 hours away from Tromsø.

Digitization became a key word in everyday work, but also support services. As an IT guy in a municipality, you are the one people come to when the equipment fails. Ole was also able to contribute to the first municipality in Norway moving its entire storage to the cloud. It was called The Polarsky project. Now we get to make use of his experience, and we are excited to see how the first six months have gone.

- There is nothing else to say other than that I am having a great time. It's exciting to live in a city for the first time that actually has public transport, he says with a small laugh.

Ole also mentions the good environment at the Tromsø office. - I get to sit with people I can enjoy myself with. It's a very good environment here, and we follow each other up well during the working day.

Close to the professional environment

What Ole highlights as the biggest difference between the public and private sector is the professional environment. He says that in municipalities it is difficult to spar with people who know the subject because it is often a small IT department, and you can end up being a potato who has to contribute where the fire is burning.

- I therefore think that being connected to such a large professional environment as Braathe is incredibly fun. Experts are available throughout the working day. In addition, there is a high standard for what we do. Something that fits very well with how I want to work.

For the Delivery Department, routines are important. Customers must be followed up closely to ensure good delivery and satisfied customers. After all, we want it to be worry-free. So does Ole.

- I'm a routine guy. Ever since childhood, I have liked routines. And my goal is to deliver the best we can.

It sounds like a good attitude for such a job. We are so excited to have you on the team and can't wait to learn more about how you work. Thanks for the chat, Ole!
