Safety advice here, and safety advice there

Aren't we the only ones with a mailbox full of advice? You may hear a lot of buzz about security now, but there's a reason why we IT people are pulling security advice from you. That's because we don't want you and your business to be standing there with your beard in the mailbox after hackers sneaked in the door and took everything you own of value.

What we want is for you to know exactly where and how to lock the doors to your business so that no malicious people (or computers) get in. You catch my drift?

National Security Authority's Security Council

In comparison, the National Security Authority (NSM) is to the IT world the same as FHI was to you during Covid-19. There we can read about advice, tips, symptoms, vulnerabilities and alerts about updates. You can do the same. That's because their website is open to everyone, and they have a duty to share their expertise with the community.

The security councils we are talking about call the National Security Authority "NSM's Basic Principles for ICT Security". At first glance it probably sounds boring, but we promise you that their list is the smartest thing you'll read this week. Read NSM's list here.

In its safety advice, NSM has taken into account all businesses that have people in several places in the country on different equipment and with different networks. They have included the home office, cottage office and even the south office in the calculations.

The most important thing from NSM's Basic Principles is that you must do the following:

  1. Identify and map what has value and what is important in your business. And survey all equipment and software in use.
  2. Protect and maintain control over both the network and who has access to your data. Remove accesses that are outdated or unsafe.
  3. Discover threats and vulnerabilities in the current solutions that you use.
  4. Manage and recover should the worst happen. Have contingency plans down to the smallest detail.

Above, you see the world's shortest summary of NSM's basic principles. We dream of you: 1. reading through the entire smørja before the year really starts or 2. asking us for a meeting where we give you an introduction to security and help you start your digital transformation journey. Our people are ready!

Framework, basic principles and professional day with us

A short time ago, we invited the National Security Authority to us to talk about precisely their security advice. John Bothner, who was one of those who wrote the basic principles, told from the stage how they thought along the way as they put together their advice.

He talked about both the advice, killed several myths that people think about security and took us through how cloud services can play a role in Norwegian businesses in the future. It was incredibly educational.
