Be very critical to connect to unsecured and open wireless networks
An open, unknown wireless network can pose a security risk. The fact that the network is open means that it is in principle an open channel where everything that flows through can be sent to everyone else who is connected to the same network. In the worst case, it could lead to you being hacked and sensitive information about you or your business going astray. It is not always as easy to see if "Hotel Costa Del Sol WIFI" is in fact a network set up by the hotel, or if it is a hacker waiting for gullible tourists who have had to do without internet ever since they were at the airport. Regardless, it is a good habit when using your corporate PC outside the office, to be extra careful and not uncritically connect to any wireless network with it. The security level of random networks can be much lower than what you are used to.

Portable equipment
Another factor that comes into play when traveling is the increased risk of losing or getting your digital equipment stolen. If unauthorized persons get hold of the units, it is important that you take some precautions. Do this even before you leave home, so your devices are a little safer!

  • Enable screen lock to prevent unauthorized access to data on the device.
  • Make sure devices are encrypted. This makes it more difficult for unauthorized persons to read/use your data if they were to obtain it first.
  • Take backup. Make sure all your data is on other devices as well.

When it comes to mobile phones, these have a number of different features that can be used "once the accident has happened". Just remember that these often have to be activated before the accident actually happens.

  • Enable and make sure there is a tracking program on your phone so you can find it again if it goes away. Such as "Find my Iphone" for Apple and "Android Device Manager" for Android.
  • Make sure the mobile phone can be erased remotely. This is done via the same solutions as mentioned above.

Check if you have enabled the service as follows:

  • iPhone: Settings> enable "Find iPhone"
  • Android: Settings> Activate "Find this device from a remote location" and "Allow remote locking and emptying"
