No day is the same, - and Peter likes that

Peter Austad Kjær is a happy boy from Rygge who has always been interested in technology. You can often find him at home diving into something new in the IT world. Then it is not so surprising that the job is about the same thing.

Peter is employed as an operating engineer with us. An operations engineer secures the systems in use and ensures that everything works as it should. It is therefore the perfect role for a man on support.

And what's the best part of the job, Peter?

- The very best thing is that no two days are the same. I never know what I will get when I land on to my phone and email at work. And every day there are new people and new issues that I can learn about.

What cases do you get?

- It can be anything from a scanner that won't scan to major problems with the connection, or user accounts playing tricks on people.

Do you have a case you remember particularly well?
- The funnest case I have come across so far was setting up a printer solution for a customer, where the solution eventually became so complicated that he said: "If I had to choose to solve this myself or throw the whole PC out the window, I would have chosen the last option!”. We both had a good laugh after that.
There is always a good atmosphere every time I can solve something so that people get on with their work.

If you've ever called in to support with us, there's a good chance you've spoken to Peter on the phone. He sits on 1st line in our support department. This means that he accepts the vast majority of large and small challenges. He often finds that there is a lot of gratitude on the other end:

- I am very aware that not everything can be understood by people who do not work with IT every day. Therefore, I hope people feel that we are speaking to them in their language. It is one of my biggest goals at work. I often experience many people breathing a sigh of relief after we have talked, says Peter.

The school prepared well for working life

Peter Austad Kjær has taken on demanding IT cases in the past. Already at university, he got to experience what can happen when IT equipment and digital solutions are the entire infrastructure of companies out there. Then it is important that it works.

In the summer of 2018, Peter moved to Bartebyen, Trondheim, and got to learn how IT is structured. Although he knew a lot from before, he was able to test himself on practical work and direct task solving, which is necessary in companies. His bachelor's degree in computer science from NTNU has therefore been of great value.

- When I had training in the first weeks of Braathe I quickly realized that much of what I had to work on I had already tested at school. It was a wonderful confirmation of what I have studied and learned during my bachelor's degree.

So you created a very good transition for yourself?

- Yes, I made the right choice there. We know how much society needs technologists in the future. I think that my study has done a lot right. We got a very practical approach to IT and it has paid off for me.

The young technologist and operations engineer moved into the office at Nærum farm, Rygge, November 2021, and it is a real pleasure to have him in the halls. The positivity he spreads and the funny conversations during lunch are a big highlight for the rest of us.

Young technologists are our future

I Braathe we have colleagues of all ages, and several of us have had our heads far down the line ever since 1989 when our company was started. So regardless of age, there is a lot of knowledge within the walls of our 10 locations. But we know that when IT develops at the speed it does, we are dependent on young technologists: both technologists who have received digital solutions with their mother's milk and those who have seen everything from the origin of blue teeth to lightning-fast 5G networks and understand cyber security .

We need skilled, solution-oriented and creative people who are able to turn around as quickly as IT development does. Just like Peter does every single day at support. Do you want to become a colleague with Peter and become part of the team in Braathe? Then we would like to hear from you!
