As an IT supplier, we also supply equipment to our customers. IT equipment has a certain lifespan, and with the significant changes that have taken place in technology over the past 10-15 years, it is natural that things must be replaced. Processors need to be more powerful, the keyboard sings on the last verse and the battery flats in a few hours. What then happens to the equipment our customers have finished with?
Through good collaboration partners, we ensure that equipment that has done its job can also live on in other ways. Learn more about how we handle equipment and what processes are carried out after you have handed in your PC to us.
As an IT supplier, it is our responsibility to ensure that the products our customers buy from us are sustainable. Our choices directly affect the degree of sustainability in what we deliver to our customers, and we must ensure the processes that take place both before and after. We keep the focus on sustainability, and encourage the entire Norwegian IT industry to do the same.
Together with Foxway, we ensure that old equipment gets a new lease of life. We are dependent on re-using the resources available rather than buying new ones each time. Everyone has a responsibility to make informed choices when dealing with their IT equipment. If Norwegian companies are at the forefront of this, private consumers will also follow suit.
We want all our partners and customers to continue to share our goal of extending the life of IT equipment to improve the current climate situation. It is therefore extra important to be careful about returning equipment that is no longer used. At the same time, it is our job to spread knowledge about circular consumption so that we can all contribute to the reuse and safe handling of equipment that is no longer needed. In this way, we make the most of each resource and more people get the pleasure of good IT equipment.
The environmental figures speak for themselves. All IT equipment delivered to Foxway enables the sale of used equipment to others. This saves the environment for CO2, water, electricity and much more. Together, we believe that rather than producing even more new equipment, we should take good care of what has already been made. A used PC corresponds to approx. 2 kg of CO2 (preparation and transport) against producing a new machine which corresponds to 250-500 kg of CO2.
At Foxway, they are focused on ensuring that all IT equipment lives as long as possible, in that they can do a refresh, preferably every 3 years per PC, which is considered optimal for this purpose.
Foxway works to inform about the importance of thinking about IT equipment as circular instead of linear. We support that. Especially because the minerals used to produce IT equipment are natural resources that are extracted from low-cost countries and are not inexhaustible. We therefore all have a responsibility to look after, share and recycle IT equipment, together. Our ambition is that the more we focus on this, the smaller the IT industry's carbon footprint will be.
In 2022, Foxway deleted 2,2 million devices, and with the work being done to communicate our important message about circular IT, we see that our goal of 4 million devices in 2023 is within reach.
If we all think that the contributions we make to a better environment are not particularly important for the big picture, there will be no improvement either. If we turn this around and think of all contributions as significant, the total will make huge differences. No one can make a difference alone.
The two main goals in connection with the disposal of equipment are confidentiality (information security, by secure deletion of all data) and environmental considerations/social responsibility.
