It could actually happen to you
We have taken a deep dive into the Business Security Council's Dark Number survey for 2022. It maps the state of IT in private and public business in Norway. Specifically, it goes into the security level of Norwegian businesses. Is it really good enough?

Here are some findings we want to highlight before you click on and take your Easter holiday.

The report tells us that among businesses with 5 or more employees, attempted data breaches/hacking and phishing are the most common incidents for businesses of that size be postponed for.

And even worse, if you discover that someone is trying to hack you, the probability is high that you will discover the break-in at a coincidence. In fact, the report states that 40% of those who are exposed to incidents discover it completely by accident.

If your business has a framework, system or employees who ensure that information security is in place, you will be able to detect the incident to a greater extent. Companies that do not have a framework have, to a greater extent, discovered the hacking by chance or via media reports, according to the report. It sounds a bit sad to read about in the newspaper, doesn't it?

Employees can be your safety ambassadors
Are you working so that your people can be part of your defence? You should do that.

Under half of the businesses with 5 to 19 employees in the report state that they have carried out activities to increase employee numbers bevissthet around security.

And only half say that they have a framework and/or a management system for information security.

We have talked a lot about human error on the BLOG. One way to prevent it is to train for it. That is why we have made the CYBR security platform available to all customers with our Digital Workplace service. Read more about it here.

Knowledge is power, also in security work
When we read the report's conclusion, we noticed one sentence: "There is reason to fear that it... is an indication of an inability or opportunity to assess the cause of events."

The authors of the report refer to the fact that 61% respond that the security breaches (that were discovered) occurred as a result of chance or bad luck.

What does that mean? Yes, we probably live up to the fact that we are a naive people. Not only have we de-prioritized the work of identifying and mapping our data and the threats that are actually out there, but we also believe that it happens randomly.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

If you think that “we are so small - it will never happen to us”. Take one more round before settling on it. The biggest threat to Norwegian businesses today is not what it used to be. Digital attacks are the biggest threat. Digital theft is what you should worry about.
