Sustainability in practice
Sustainability can quickly be perceived as a hairy word without so much action attached to it. We're a little tired of that. Therefore, we finally sat down to show what we do to be one of the few sustainable IT suppliers in Norway. A separate point on our website became necessary. We are proud of what we have achieved, and we will always have sustainability in mind when we as a company develop over time.
Braathe Gruppen has from the beginning been located on the wonderful Nærum farm on Rygge. Which since the middle of the 1700th century has been operated by Braathe- the family in the traditional way. It is still in full activity, but now also functions as a server farm, but in a sustainable way. Isn't that cool?
A creative tool
Our biggest tool for becoming more sustainable is located on the farm itself. We have in fact dug 15 kilometers of cooling loops under the ground on the property. This is because servers and stores with servers generate large amounts of heat. Which is natural considering both the energy and the activity in a server alone.
Therefore, we actively used the farm. It now acts as a cooler for our servers. Where more than 10 users and 000 servers are served. This saves the earth a lot of heat, at the same time as we in the workplace can use the heat when the thermometer shows minus degrees. It gives us a win-win situation, and saves the environment from unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions.
This also means that we can to a greater extent regulate our energy consumption throughout the year. Which in turn has led to completely separate energy consumption targets. In fact, we can boast that in the last five years we have reduced our total consumption in kWh relative to our turnover of services produced in the data centers. We intend to continue with that!

We do not give up there
We have several different measures in progress throughout our business trip. And with every new service created by us, sustainable and environmentally friendly measures will also follow. We are now concerned that all of our equipment that we either sell or rent out through our SaaS system is recycled, sold or restructured in a sensible way. Through our partner 3stepIT, we work with recycling of EE waste in an environmentally friendly way that saves the environment both large amounts of CO2 in addition to reducing the hunt for raw materials. This also means that when our customers have to keep their climate accounts, they can be sustainable in the purchase with our services.
Because that's what we want. We want to create a worry-free IT everyday life for you and your workplace. With that comes responsibility for those who come after us. Then sustainability is a fantastic collective term for both responsibility for the earth's environment and longevity, and the children and technologists of the future. WE hope there will be extra many of them…
That is why we have also developed our own environmental goals. As you can find in our list of measures on our new page about sustainable IT. We hope our customers follow the same example in their search for a more sustainable everyday life. We ourselves look forward to achieving the goals we have achieved and constantly pursuing new goals in the context of sustainability as well as others.
