When is the job a match?

Elise belongs to a generation that has different expectations of their employer than previous generations. In a stable economy where we are getting a greater and greater focus on mental health and work-life balance, it is no surprise. We want the freedom to choose for ourselves how life should be laid out.

Universum Norge annually asks IT students what they expect from an employer. In 2022, both personal development, social environment and a high degree of flexibility were on the list. For Elise, there were several things that were important, especially the work tasks. She wanted to test different tasks to see where she was most comfortable and what she felt she got the most in return for. For her, training and the framework around it were also important, especially because the learning curve is so steep for new graduates in business.

- I think it is really important to have good training. It is both your first impression and your start in working life. For me it was a soft start through the summer job, and I'm very happy about that, says Elise with a smile.

Matching at work is something we think is important. Not only for the professional environment and the conversations, but also for the social environment. We encourage you to eat lunch together, solve cases across departments and train together at 15pm. It is a sign of health for us. That is why we are actively working on how to onboard new people, offboard employees we have become happy with and how everyday enjoyment can be as much as possible in place.

From summer internship and internship to permanent position

Elise has had time to get to know us since 2020 already. She was then employed as a summer intern. That time, she was able to tell about an educational time and that there was a lot of new things she got to know. She also managed to get to know the organization of our company. It tends to take a little extra time since we have 10 locations spread across Norway, but thanks to digital tools we get it done in a good way.

Working digitally was not new to Elise either. She got to experience it both during her studies and during her summer job.

As a student, Elise got to experience a lot of practical things through her studies, and she recognized a lot from her summer job. She also points out that getting to know the customers was a lot of fun - and of course getting to join the systems we used at the time.

Now she has known us for a few years, but the impression remains: - When I started in Braathe I was well received and through the program I followed I received good guidance. What she points out even more strongly this time is how low the threshold is for showing and sharing internally. - Everyone will contribute with their expertise. I feel like I joined the gang very quickly - and it's really nice, she says.

What do you think is the biggest difference from being a student to a permanent job?

- What I have to emphasize are probably the working hours. Although Braathe have flexible hours and a lot of home office, so it's really nice to deal with fixed working hours. As a student, you must make all decisions yourself and struggle through the exam period. Now I get rid of a bad conscience at weekends or if I watch Netflix in the evening.

Which tasks do you enjoy the most?

- Always fun when you manage to solve a problem for a customer, regardless of how big or small it is. I also think it's fun to learn new things and to be challenged.

If you want to greet Elise in 2020, you can read her article from that time. We think it's a nice retrospective: Read here.

We are constantly developing

Training is something we attach great importance to. We are constantly working to improve the skills of our employees, through skills transfer, courses, certification courses and other activities. All our managers, from group and team leaders up to the management group, have worked their way through a customized management development program with training, guidance and further development for all of them over the course of a year. Good managers see and listen to their employees, and we work on this every single day, at all levels of the organisation.

Many also wonder whether age has anything to do with the IT industry. We think that no, it has not. There are many degrees of "young" in our gang. Some may have gray hair, but have the energy of a 20-year-old. While some others are anything but gray in the hair, but love to plant in the garden and live a slow life.

That's why we're not too concerned about age here - the only thing we're concerned about is your willingness to contribute and learn new things. As long as you want to contribute to creating a worry-free IT everyday life for our customers, we probably fit well together. If you are curious about working with us, we recommend have a look at our careers page.
